Vehicle Services

At a glance

Region Örebro’s ambulance services cover a large geographical area. Since early 2025 they have used Evam Vehicle Services across the ambulance fleet, with stable navigation and offline maps that work even when the network does not, and updates made centrally without visiting each vehicle.

Requirements for digital tools in ambulance and pre-hospital care have increased significantly in recent years and are now a natural part of how the modern care pathway functions.

In ambulance operations, situations change rapidly and decisions are made on the move, often under pressure. Digital support is therefore not just about technology. It’s about reaching the patient safely and quickly, arriving prepared and enabling clear communication and coordination. This makes in-vehicle software a critical component of patient safety. In Region Örebro, the ambulance services cover a large geographical area. The mission spans everything from acute medical response to close collaboration with other parts of the healthcare system and emergency services. With a shared objective: to ensure safe, efficient and equitable care.

“In our line of work, digital tools are part of patient safety. They have to work every time, without creating uncertainty or taking focus away from the patient.”

Say Anders Råhlen and Peter Carlsson, ambulance nurses at Region Örebro and part of the group that handles procurement of in-vehicle solutions. With patient safety as a priority and a clear need for future-proof solutions, the requirements for procuring a new MDT-Software were clear.

“Evam Vehicle Services is easy to use and requires very little from the user. That makes a real difference in everyday work.”

Since early 2025, Region Örebro has been using Evam’s MDT Solution, Vehicle Services, across its ambulance fleet. A SaaS solution that supports the full emergency workflow. From mobilisation and navigation to case management and situational awareness.

“The system is smartly designed so that we receive the right information at the right time on the way to an incident.”

For Region Örebro, it was essential to choose an in-vehicle solution that would not become a standalone system but instead integrate seamlessly with the rest of their IT environment. The solution needed to be a natural part of day-to-day operations, providing support without adding complexity or uncertainty to the work.

Navigation was a particularly important factor in the decision. In the field, connectivity can vary, and the system therefore had to function even when the network does not. Access to stable navigation and offline maps was critical to ensure crews could always reach their destination, regardless of circumstances. Further strengthening patient safety as a result.

“Previously, updates could take a long time and required extensive planning. Today, we can make changes centrally without having to visit each vehicle. Which keeps the systems up to date without disrupting operations.”

Once the system was in place, its value quickly became clear in daily operations. Reliable and consistent navigation provides crews with a sense of security during response, even in areas with limited connectivity. The ability to switch between different map views, such as orthophotos or satellite imagery, give users a better understanding of their surroundings already on the way to the incident and can play a crucial role in reaching patients quickly.

The system has also become the natural working tool Anders and Peter had hoped for when they started the process. Information about assignments, positions and routing is gathered in one place and presented in a way that works while on the move and under time pressure. This reduces the need to switch between systems or perform manual tasks, allowing crews to work more cohesively throughout the entire response.

“The less the system demands from us, the more we can focus on the patient. That’s exactly how a digital support tool should work.”

At the same time, the ongoing dialogue with Evam has become a natural part of everyday operations. Questions, feedback and improvement suggestions are addressed continuously, and the organisation has real influence over how the system evolves over time.

“It’s not just about support. We have the opportunity to influence how the system develops, which means it continues to work for our reality.”

For Region Örebro, introducing a new MDT-Solution has been about more than meeting basic requirements. It has been a deliberate choice to operate at the forefront, using digital tools that actively strengthen the organisation and its mission, both today and in the future. In a service where every decision can have significant consequences, the right digital support is part of the bigger picture. For Region Örebro, it means better conditions to work safely, efficiently and with the patient firmly at the centre of care.
